Ben Gear joined the CISCC team in August 2022 as the Student Support Specialist School Programs Assistant. Ben started work in youth services as a Peer Support Specialist in 2016 with a focus on helping youth avoid the hurdles that tripped him up as a youth. His experiences also include volunteer mentoring at a youth-serving nonprofit in 2018 and was promoted to Program Coordinator shortly after. This allowed Ben to utilize his creativity and experience to design programs and curricula for youth impacted by a mental health diagnosis, substance misuse, and/or justice involvement. Ben’s desire to provide an equitable experience for everyone he encounters fuels his passion for service.
Ben was raised and educated in Chapel Hill, North Carolina and is the youngest and only boy of four children. He is a proud father of a 24 year old daughter and 16 year old son as well as two puppies (Sunday and Ivy). A UNC fan through and through and a big fan of NBA basketball, you may also see Ben playing in a pickup kickball league or spending time with friends, family and his puppies.
