It has been a great month of impact at CISCC. Scroll through to see some of our highlights and accomplishments over the past month!

Our mentors play a significant role in providing a community of support for our CISCC students, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. This month, we highlighted two of our long-term volunteers, and the impact they have had in the lives of students.

Mayme Boyd is an all-around volunteer. She is our board chairperson, helps with fundraising, participates in community events and has officially mentored 4 youth (as well as some non-official mentoring) through Communities In Schools of Chatham County . Mayme’s heart truly lies with the youth of CISCC. She wants to be part of the village that supports, encourages and guides youth to places where they can achieve in life. What she doesn’t know, Mayme is not afraid to do research and ask questions. She will work with others to get the desired results. Mayme continues to be a valuable asset to CISCC and our youth! Thank you, Mayme, for all you do!!!!!

Stephen Townsend joined CISCC as a volunteer over a decade ago. In the 14 years Steve has volunteered as a mentor and tutor, he has worked with more than 70 students. Steve’s background is in engineering, which attributes to his meticulous and focused approach to tutoring. New to Steve this year is EOG preparation groups with 5th and 8th graders at George Moses Horton Middle School. Like his individual sessions, Steve allows students to work through a problem on their own, followed by discussion on the answer and how students got their answer. Every student Steve has worked with has shown progress in Math! He is also providing support for other CISCC tutors and volunteers. He is truly amazing!

Together, we are building a community of support, empowering students to stay in school and achieve in life! Our collective efforts are making a difference – witness the incredible boost in attendance this school year through the work of CISCC! Together, we’re shaping futures and helping students succeed!

In the last quarter, an impressive 88% of CISCC elementary students saw significant improvement in their school attendance. Overall, 83% of all CISCC students saw an improvement in school attendance.

We recently shared a video highlighting our work throughout 2023. Watch below to see the various ways we have impacted students and families throughout our community over the past year.
