This week, we’re aiming to raise $5,000 in just 5 days to give students the tools, support, and opportunities they deserve as we kick off the 2025-2026 school year Tuesday, August, 26th.

Today, we’re highlighting the second of our Five Basics:

A Safe Place to Learn and Grow

At CIS Chatham County, we are dedicated to creating safe and supportive learning environments where every student can thrive. Creating a safe environment includes an inclusive, welcoming, caring place where we meet each student where they are.

That’s why our team provides tiered supports—strengthening school-wide climate, offering targeted group interventions, and delivering case-managed one-on-one support. By fostering positive school environments and addressing the unique needs of students, we ensure that schools are not just classrooms, but safe havens where learning and growth can truly take root.

One example of these spaces is our brand-new summer workshop we piloted for our students—a 6-week series focused on building life and career skills!

The sessions have included goal setting and vision boards, as well as resume building, interviewing skills, public speaking, leadership, financial literacy, and more.

Each week, through a variety of interactive activities, teaching, and group discussions, our students have gained invaluable life skills in a relaxing, age-appropriate, inclusive, and welcoming environment.

At CIS Chatham County, we know that academics alone aren’t enough for students to thrive. That’s why we facilitate Social Emotional Wellness groups—small group sessions where students build critical life skills like managing emotions, developing healthy relationships, making responsible decisions, and setting goals for their future.

These groups provide a safe, supportive environment for students to practice real-world skills such as conflict resolution, coping with stress, and effective communication. With the guidance of our Student Support Specialists, students gain confidence, resilience, and stronger connections to their peers and school.

Moreover, an essential element to creating safe places to learn and grow is the presence of a caring adult. Whether that is an after-school activity with a mentor, a walk around campus with CISCC staff, or a learning activity at our office, caring relationships fuel our efforts and outcomes.

For many, these kinds of groups and activities are the difference between simply getting by and truly thriving—in the classroom and in life.

This week, we are seeking to raise $5,000 in 5 days to support our work in local schools.
