Even though students are on summer break, things are in full-swing at CIS Chatham County! Read below to catch some of the highlights, including a new workshop series we are piloting, from this past month.
We’re excited to pilot a brand-new summer workshop for our students—a 6-week series focused on building life and career skills!
The sessions kicked off with goal setting and vision boards, as well as resume building and interviewing skills. In the weeks ahead, students will dive into public speaking, leadership, financial responsibility, and more.
This innovative workshop helps us fulfill our 5 Basics by offering:
-A safe place to learn and grow
– A healthy start and a healthy future
-Marketable skills to use upon graduation
We can’t wait to see our students grow and thrive this summer!
We have once again partnered with Chatham County Schools and CORA in offering our weekly bookmobile! In July and August, the book mobile visits various sites around Siler City Elementary and Virginia Cross Elementary giving students the opportunity to enjoy snacks (thanks to CORA!) and pick up some books. Hundreds of kids have already taken advantage of this opportunity through July.
A member of our community shared this with us: The bookmobile keeps the kids reading over the summer break. Thank you for taking the time to continue coming out summer after summer. I can’t believe the kids get to have this.
If you know elementary students who may be interested, you can find out more details about the bookmobile here.
Now through October, you can support Communities In Schools of Chatham County by rounding up at our local Harris Teeter!
Every time you shop, just say “yes” to rounding up—and 100% of your donation will stay right here in our community, helping support local schools and students.
Small change big impact. Help us spread the word to friends and neighbors!
