It has been another full month at CISCC! Even during the summer months, our work continues as we impact students and families in Chatham County. Read below for some of July’s highlights.

We have once again partnered with Chatham County Schools and CORA in offering our weekly bookmobile! In July and August, the book mobile visits various sites around Siler City Elementary and Virginia Cross Elementary giving students the opportunity to enjoy snacks (thanks to CORA!) and pick up some books. Hundreds of kids have already taken advantage of this opportunity through July.

A member of our community recently shared this with us: The bookmobile keeps the kids reading over the summer break. Thank you for taking the time to continue coming out summer after summer. I can’t believe the kids get to have this.

If you know elementary students who may be interested, you can find out more details about the bookmobile here.

We are grateful for our numerous partnerships with worksites across Chatham County! These work sites play a crucial role in our Community Service & Restitution (CSR) program.

Through this program, referred juveniles are given the opportunity to be accountable for their actions via supervised community service. Not only does this help them repay victims when necessary, but it also builds their social skills through restorative practices and transformative relationships to prevent repeat offenses.

By partnering with local organizations, the CSR program ensures that youth engage in meaningful activities, learn the importance of good citizenship, and develop pro-social skills—all while working towards their Individual Plan of Care goals. This month, we have specifically highlighted our partnerships with the Siler City Community Garden, West Chatham Food Pantry, and Happy Hills Animal Foundation. Overall, we have partnerships with 17 different worksites in Chatham County! Thank you to our incredible community partners for making a difference in the lives of these youth.

We are still looking for additional worksites, so please let us know if you are aware of any potential worksites!
