In addition to our daily work with students and families, we have had additional opportunities to engage our community, empower students, and make a difference. See some of our October highlights below.

Cooking Matters for Teens is Back!

Cooking Matters for Teens (CMFT) is one of our most popular and impactful programs! This hands-on initiative has helped students build valuable culinary skills, learn about nutrition, and explore exciting careers in the food industry. Thanks to amazing volunteers like Erika Guy students are not only learning how to prepare healthy meals but also discovering new passions and possibilities for their futures.

Parent Night at Siler City Elementary School

In addition to our daily work supporting students, engaging parents and families is a vital part of our mission. This month, Student Support Specialist Rosa Salazar joined Siler City Elementary’s Parent Night—connecting with families, sharing CISCC’s impact, and showing how being present can make a lasting difference in a student’s life.

Community Events

Being present at community events is an important part of fulfilling our mission! It allows us to connect with families, see our students out in the community, and introduce more people to the work of CISCC. From the Trunk or Treat in Siler City to the Fall Fest at Chatham Community Church, we’ve loved these extra opportunities to share, engage, and celebrate together!

Sources of Strength – Jordan Matthews High School

At Jordan-Matthews High School, students are discovering the power of connection and resilience through Sources of Strength, a nationally recognized, best-practice program for suicide prevention and mental health promotion. Meeting weekly, Sources of Strength empowers peer leaders to share messages of hope, help, and strength—fostering a school community where students support one another and thrive together.
