April was another full month of being present with Chatham County students and families. From field trips, to community-wide events, to our Annual Breakfast, our impact continues and lives are being transformed in many positive ways. Read our highlights from the month below!

At Communities In Schools of Chatham County, we know that field trips are more than just fun outings — they’re powerful tools for relationship building and giving students the chance to grow, explore, and try something new.
Our elementary students kicked off the week with an exciting trip to the North Carolina Zoo, where they were wide-eyed with wonder at the variety of animals. Each student had a blast picking their favorite and learning something new about the natural world.
The next day, it was our middle and high school students’ turn for adventure at Xtreme Park Adventures in Durham. With rock climbing, ziplining, and other adrenaline-pumping activities, the day was full of laughter, courage, and connection. Beyond the physical challenges, students engaged in meaningful conversations and deepened their relationships with peers and staff.
These spring break trips reminded us of the importance of being present through enriching experiences for students — experiences that open doors, build trust, and leave lasting memories.

On Friday April 25th, we had the joy of gathering with our community for our Annual Breakfast — and what a powerful gathering it was. Held with the spirit of celebration and reflection, the event brought together Chatham County Schools, sponsors, donors, volunteers, students, alumni, and community partners for a heartfelt morning filled with connection and purpose.
Throughout the event, we heard powerful stories of impact that reminded us why we do this work — and why showing up matters. From students who’ve overcome challenges with the support of caring adults, to volunteers who’ve built deep relationships through mentorship, every story reaffirmed our belief in the power of Being Present.
We left the morning energized and deeply grateful — and we hope you did, too. Your presence, your partnership, and your belief in our mission make a tangible difference in the lives of Chatham County students and families.
We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who made the morning possible:
- Our generous sponsors and donors, partner organizations and Chatham County Schools
- Our dedicated volunteers
- Our amazing Board of Directors and staff team
- And, most of all, our incredible students, who inspire us every day
Together, we are building a community where every student has the support they need to stay in school and achieve in life.

In addition to our daily work in schools, with our Community Service and Restitution students, and in support of various families, we also value opportunities to engage with the broader community and raise awareness of CISCC. April gave us several such moments—from the CommUNITY: Mind Matters seminar to the Day of the Book (El Día del Libro), Eggstravaganza at Chatham Community Church to the Love Chatham and El Camino food distributions. We are grateful for the many partnerships and the shared commitment to empowering students and families throughout Chatham County.
