The CIS CC Youth Garden project began in 2013 when we negotiated an agreement with a local artist and owner of a private, vacant lot located near the agency’s office in downtown Siler City. With in-kind support from local volunteers and businesses and funding through a variety of sources, CIS CC has transformed the lot in into a hub of volunteer activity that strengthens positive connections between youth with Juvenile Justice court-ordered service commitments and their families, neighbors, and community. In 2014 we planted fruit trees, bushes, perennials, set up a cold frame for seed starting, and worked collaboratively with a local artist to enhance the site with a beautiful mosaic project. In 2015, we received funding through a small grant to erect a greenhouse to extend the growing system and provide a learning laboratory for program participants.
The CIS CC Youth Garden continues to put out bountiful harvests each year, and donates all produce back in to the community! Want to know how you can be a part of the Youth Garden and utilize your green thumbs? Volunteer with us!
